The Feast of San Gennaro

About: The city gathers for the liquefaction of the saint's blood, one of the most important religious events in Naples.

When: The Saturday before the first Sunday in May, September 19 (the ampoules stay on display for a week) and December 16.

About: Naples promised the saint this chapel in 1527, during years of war, plague and eruptions. Domenichino, Giovanni Lanfranco, Jusepe de Ribera and Cosimo Fanzago all worked on it, and the ampoules of the blood are kept behind the main altar.

When: Daily, with a break in the middle of the day.
