Many of the best finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum are not at the ruins. They are in the center of Naples, at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. Wall paintings, mosaics and bronzes lifted from the buried towns sit here alongside classical sculpture and Egyptian antiquities, so a visit fills in much of what the excavation sites leave out.
