Città della Scienza is Italy’s first interactive science museum, on the seafront in Bagnoli at the foot of Posillipo hill. In one visit you can walk through the human body in Corporea, watch live insects up close and sit under the dome of Italy’s largest planetarium.

About Città della Scienza

The Science Centre is part of a larger complex on Naples’ western waterfront, run by the Fondazione IDIS-Città della Scienza, that also includes a congress centre and a start-up incubator. The museum covers about 6,000 m² indoors and 5,000 m² outdoors. Its exhibition areas are Corporea, Insects & Co., the Planetarium and temporary exhibitions that change every year, with lab spaces for family and school activities.

Corporea, the Human Body Museum

Corporea was Europe’s first interactive museum about the human body. The route runs through 14 themed islands, from the heart and circulation to DNA and the immune system, and mixes hands-on exhibits with archaeological pieces.

Italy’s Largest Planetarium

The dome is 20 metres across and seats 113. Shows, some live and some recorded, cover the night sky, space missions and dark matter, and many are made with agencies such as NASA and ESA.

Weekend Workshops for Kids

Every weekend the museum runs science workshops and activities aimed at different age groups, plus guided tours that start from meeting points inside the museum.

Insects & Co.

A 400 m² exhibition with live animals in display cases: spiders, scorpions, millipedes, hermit crabs and horseshoe crabs, which have barely changed in hundreds of millions of years. The specimens on show change regularly.

Getting to Città della Scienza

By Car

Leave the Tangenziale (ring road) at Fuorigrotta or Agnano and follow the signs. The car park is 200 m from the entrance.

By Metro (Line 2)

Ride to Napoli Campi Flegrei, then take the R7 bus to Via Coroglio.

By Cumana Train

Get off at Bagnoli and walk about 20 minutes along the seafront, or hop on the R7.

By Bus

The R7 runs along Via Coroglio and stops right at Città della Scienza.

By Taxi

Naples taxis charge fixed fares to the museum from the waterfront, Napoli Centrale and the airport.
